Faith + Nutrition = Transformation in Weight Loss

Lindy Schlabach - Christian Mindset & Weight Loss Coach Season 2 Episode 134

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” —Romans 12:2

1. Faith Sets the Foundation

- Faith gives your “why” a purpose that lasts.

2. Nutrition Supports the Mission

-Faith sets the purpose — but nutrition fuels the mission.

Here’s what that looks like practically:

  • Eating balanced meals that include lean protein, whole carbs, and healthy fats.
  • Choosing foods that give energy, not comfort.
  • Staying hydrated, getting enough rest, and listening to your body’s cues.

3. Transformation Comes Through Alignment

Heavenly Father, thank You for designing our bodies so beautifully. Thank You for the gift of food and nourishment. Teach us to eat and live in a way that glorifies You. Help us align our faith and our nutrition so that transformation can begin — not from pressure or perfection, but from Your power. Renew our minds, Lord, and help us walk each day in strength, peace, and purpose. We give You our goals, our habits, and our hearts. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Do one thing this week: Before every meal, pause and pray.

God Cares for Your Body

OK, so let's start with this truth. God created your body and he cares about how you nourish it. He doesn't want us filling that void with what he's meant to fill.

When we bring our eating habits, our goals, and even our struggles with food under his authority, that's when true transformation begins. Listen, I have struggled with emotional eating for probably most of my life.

I'm 43 years old and I would say I just have always struggled with seeing food as a way to celebrate or be sad, or just trying to fill that longing that's in the pit of my stomach. I mean, I gained 100 pounds. That's not something that just happens.

I was feeding myself to the point of obesity and sickness, and so many of the struggles that I faced then with my mindset, I still struggle with some of those because I haven't let food stop ruling my life in certain situations.

Now, it's not like it was, and I can recognize it, but the struggle is still there. My daughter's birthday was the end of October, and we celebrated all weekend, and I really felt like I was in control of my eating all weekend.

Like Saturday, her party, I ran my butt off, but then Sunday came, and I think I ate like two cupcakes, and I finished Hubby's Trace Leches, and I had a Jumoka Shake at Arby's for lunch. I went off the rails.

Candy corn and peanuts that night when we came home, it was ridiculous. Monday, I woke up, and I feel like I drank a bottle of wine. I had the most horrible sugar hangover, and that takes three days to get out of your system.

I thought to myself, what in the world was I thinking? I had to repent, I had to ask the Lord to continue to work on me and change my heart, I had to start praying that Psalm 139, 23, and 24 prayer.

What inside of me thinks that that is an okay way to act? Monday morning, my left knee hurt so bad during my workout. I do a low-impact bar workout.

I'm not wearing shoes, I'm not jumping, I'm not lifting heavy weights. My knee was screaming because of the sugar that I ate.

When I share these things with you, these are things I'm still working on, but God has given me steps and things that I can do, that I have done in order for me to reframe my mind, and that is what I share with you in the Biblical Weight Loss

Framework. Framework.

4:53

Faith Fuels Purpose

Today, we're going to look at three ways that faith and nutrition work hand-in-hand to bring about that real lasting sustainable change that you're looking for in your weight loss. Faith is going to set the foundation.

Faith gives your why a purpose that lasts. Without faith, nutrition becomes about control. It becomes about counting every calorie, striving, it becomes about perfection.

We become legalistic. But with faith, it becomes about stewarding our choices and honoring the body that God gave us, so we can live fully in his calling and the purpose that he's placed on our life.

And when we approach your health from a place of faith, we don't ask anymore, what should I eat to lose weight? We start asking, how can I fuel my body to serve God well today?

And that shift changes everything because now, every meal becomes a moment of worship. Every healthy choice becomes an act of obedience.

It's not about shrinking your body, it's about expanding your capacity to serve and to love and to live with energy and joy.

5:55

Nutrition Supports Mission

And the way that they work hand in hand is that nutrition supports your mission. So faith is gonna set the purpose, but then nutrition, your nutrition is going to be what fuels your mission.

You know when your body is undernourished or out of balance, it's really hard to focus, it's hard to pray, or even to have energy to do the things that God is calling you to do. That's why balanced nutrition matters.

It's not about vanity, it's about vitality. So what does it look like practically speaking? Think about eating balanced meals that include lean proteins, whole carbs, and healthy fats.

Think about choosing food that gives you energy, not comfort. Think about staying hydrated, making sure that you're resting, putting your phone down, you're listening to your body's cues.

And when you nourish your body well, you're giving her the strength to carry out your God-given mission, whether it's raising kids, serving in ministry, running a business, or just loving people well.

Because nutrition isn't separate from your spiritual life, it is part of it.

6:57

Renew Your Mind

So thirdly, transformation comes through alignment. True transformation only happens when your faith and your nutrition align with your Biblical mindset. Remember our verse, Romans 12 2?

Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. That means that transformation starts in your mind and your mindset determines your habits.

So if you believe, I'll never lose weight or I always mess up, if you speak those things out loud, your actions are going to follow that belief.

But when you renew your mind with the truth, with God's truth, when you say, take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ, that we read about in 1st Corinthians, that becomes the way that you live and your choices start to line up with

that truth. So in short, the Holy Spirit transforms your thinking. Nutrition supports your body and together, they create the transformation that God desires from you from the inside out. So I want you to think about this today.

I want you to think about where you have been trying to transform your body without inviting God into the process. Maybe you focused on the meal plan but not the mindset, or maybe you've prayed for change but haven't fueled your body with care.

8:08

Daily Prayer Practice

This week, I want you to try blending both. Think about faith lining up with nutrition, but also with that component of grace in there. Before every meal, before every bite, pause and pray.

Lord, thank you for this food. Help me to eat with gratitude and self-control. Let my choices honor you.

And then, in between bites, put your fork down. Chew your food 20 to 30 to 40 times. I have this horrible habit of putting food in my mouth before I've even swallowed the previous bite.

I just read a devotional on the YouVersion app and she was talking about counting your food. And so I started doing that, realizing that I'm putting food in my mouth before I've swallowed the last bite. No wonder I have digestive issues.

Do what you're doing. Focus on what you're doing. Let that short moment of prayer shift your posture from striving to surrender.

That's where the transformation is going to take root. When we pray Psalm 139, 23, and 4, search me God and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.

Learning to recognize these things that we're doing every single day, being willing to lay down your pride, your self-righteousness, and ask the Lord to change you and to reveal the things and the areas that you struggle with that you don't even

realize, that's where transformation takes root. But we have to be willing to listen to what the Lord is saying, and that only comes through prayer every day, through reading the Word every day.

Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. That only comes through conversation with him, not just a prayer at night before you fall asleep.

In the morning, first thing, every single day, waking up with gratitude, with joy, with intention, communing with your Holy Father. He will change the way you think.

Your mind will transform, and your mindset is going to stop going from I'll never lose weight to I can do this because God is in me and God is leading my choices.

Transformation comes through alignment with the Holy Spirit and what God is going to speak over you and your journey. It's the faith plus nutrition that equals transformation. They have to work together.

It's not one or the other. It's both. It's both.

Heavenly Father, thank you for designing our bodies so complex and so beautifully. Thank you for the gift of food and nourishment, Lord. Teach us to eat and live in a way that glorifies you.

Help me align my faith and my nutrition so that transformation can begin, not from pressure or perfection, but only from your holy power. Forgive me, Father, when I fail.

Forgive me for the times that I've used food to fill a void that only you can fill. Renew our minds, Lord. Help me walk each day in strength, peace, and purpose.

I give you my goals, Father. I give you my habits and my heart. Change me and make me new.

In Jesus' name, Amen. So, this week, I want you to do one simple thing. Before every meal, pause and pray.

Ask God to help you eat with peace, gratitude, and wisdom to your food. You'll be amazed at how that tiny shift changes your mindset and your results.

And if today's message encouraged you, please share it with a friend who's walking through her own transformation journey. Let's remind each other that faith and nutrition aren't separate. They're sacred together.

Listen, I want you to keep going, sister. God's not finished with your story. Keep letting him lead and watch where you'll go.

And if you're ready to work on your own personal journey, join the Biblical Weight Loss Framework. You can do this. God bless.
