Faith and Fitness: Starting Fresh This Fall

Lindy Schlabach - Christian Mindset & Weight Loss Coach Season 2 Episode 115

. Psalm 51:10 says, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Start small. Choose one key habit to focus on for the week.

For example:

  • Add a 10-minute morning stretch or walk.

  • Prep one healthy meal each day.

  • Drink an extra glass of water.

Don’t focus on the past or what you “failed” at. Philippians 3:13 reminds us, “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Here’s how to put this into action this week:
    1. Pick One Focus: Choose one habit to start. Maybe it’s movement, water intake, or prepping breakfast the night before.

    2. Plan Your Meals: Even a simple plan helps. Pick one healthy breakfast or lunch to prepare ahead. It reduces stress and sets you up for success.

    3. Move Your Body: Start small. A 10-minute walk, stretch, or light workout is enough to get started.

      4. Anchor with Scripture: Begin each morning with prayer or a short devotion. Ask God for strength and consistency in your steps.

  • Reflect in the Evening: Take 2 minutes at night to thank God for the small victories of the day—whether you moved, ate well, or stayed consistent.

“Lord, thank You for this new day and this new season. Help us to take steady, faithful steps in caring for our bodies, minds, and hearts. Renew our spirit, guide our choices, and remind us that each small effort honors You. Amen.”

Hello friends, welcome to the podcast. I'm so glad you're here. Oh my gosh, can you feel that fresh fall energy in the air?

Oh my goodness, September is the perfect time for a reset. It's a chance to take a deep breath, refocus, and step into new routines that honor God, that strengthen your body and nurture your soul.

So I want to start today with a verse that has always encouraged me when I feel stuck or unsure of how to start fresh. Psalm 51 verse 10 says, Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. I love that word steadfast.

Notice that God's renewal isn't just spiritual, it's a holistic renewal, heart, mind, body, and spirit. He craves, he wants to strengthen us from the inside out.

So today we're going to talk about how to start fresh this fall in a practical faith-filled way without overwhelm or guilt. So stay tuned. Are you sick of trying diet after diet and not losing weight?

Are you tired of doubting your ability to actually lose weight in a healthy way? Do you wish you could find a laid out for you plan that will help you stay accountable to your goals?

Hey, friends, I'm Lindy Schlabach, Christian Fitness & Nutrition Coach. I gained 100 pounds in my late 20s and struggled for years to get it off. So grab your pre-workout and let's chat.

I gained 100 pounds, y'all. Like I am not foreign to struggling through weight loss or fad dieting or unhealthy mindsets. That is why I created the biblical weight loss framework.

I know God has called me to help you find what I have. You've got to be trying, sick of trying every diet. You've got to be sick of walking in shame and condemnation.

It's overwhelming. It's hard to know what to do. But I promise you, this framework will help you lose weight in a Holy Spirit led way.

I provide you with video training, homework prompts, and accountability and group coaching in the student community. You will stay encouraged on this often hard journey. I know how hard it is to try one more thing.

But pray, ask God to lead you, and if this is the right place for you, join the framework. You can find the link in the show notes below or go to herweightlossmindset.com/framework. That's herweightlossmindset.com/framework.

So starting fresh does not mean changing everything at once. In fact, that's often the fastest way to burn out. Instead, we're going to focus on steady and intentional steps.

All or nothing just doesn't work. So I want you to think about your health goals for a moment. Maybe you want to eat more nutritious meals.

Or maybe your goal is to move your body consistently. Or maybe you just want to establish a healthy morning routine that makes sense for the season of life that you're in. So where do you even begin?

I want you to start small. I want you to focus on one thing. One thing to focus on just for this week.

So here are a couple things that maybe will speak to you. You can add a 10-minute morning stretch or a walk. Maybe prep one healthy meal today.

And maybe you're going to wake up and drink 16 to 20 ounces of water. These seemingly small steps might seem insignificant, but they are so powerful.

Pray, ask God to lead you to the area that you need to start today, and then have the courage to walk that out in faithful Holy Spirit obedience.

Every choice you make in faith is going to strengthen your body and your mind and your heart, and it's going to build momentum. God is going to honor you in those seemingly small but faithful efforts.

Another important part of starting fresh is refocusing your mindset. We're not looking in the past where we failed.

Philippians 3.13 reminds us, forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Yes, that's so powerful. Let's read that again.

Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. We are pressing forward. Maybe one painful step at a time.

We are not looking back. Every morning, every choice, every step is a new opportunity to start fresh. So I want to give you five steps that will help you put this into action this week.

The first one, we're going to pick one focus. We're going to choose one habit to start. Maybe it's movement, water intake, or prepping breakfast the night before.

The second one, plan your meals. Even a simple plan helps. Pick one healthy breakfast or lunch to prepare ahead.

It's going to reduce stress and set you up for success. The third step, move your body, start small. A 10-minute walk, a 10-minute stretch, or light workout is enough to get started.

We say it takes 5 minutes just to get your mind in step with what your body is doing. So even if you get 5 minutes to really get in the mode and then 5 minutes to finish, that's enough to start.

The fourth action step this week is anchor your goals with scripture. Every morning you're going to start with prayer and a couple of verses from God's Word. Ask Him to strengthen and give you consistency in your steps.

He will. The fifth thing, look back in the evening. Take 2 minutes at night to thank God for the small victories of the day, whether it was movement or a healthy meal or just being consistent.

Small, seemingly small, consistent steps build a foundation for the big change. And remember, these steps honor God. Caring for your body is not selfish.

It's stewardship and it allows us to be healthy for ourselves so that we can go fill other people's cup. It starts with filling ours first. So I want you to hear me today.

Are you listening? It doesn't matter where you're starting. Whether you skipped workouts all summer or you've struggled with healthy eating, eaten ice cream, I think nine out of the last ten days.

But God is inviting us to start fresh. He is going to celebrate your faithfulness, not your perfection. He just wants you to lean on Him and trust that He's going to provide the way.

He can do a lot more with your surrender than He can do with your strive. So I want you to ask yourself a couple of questions this week. What is one small step I can take today to honor God with my body and my choices?

The next question, how can I invite God into my daily routine? My quiet time, my meal prep, my intentional movement. And the last question, which mindset shift do I need to let go of?

Guilt and embrace grace. So take a few moments to journal and pray over these questions. This small practice is going to plant seeds for lasting change, I promise.

And when we let God lead, He always gives us more than we could ever ask for or imagine. So let's close together. Holy Father, thank you for this day and this new season.

Help us to take steady, faithful steps in caring for our bodies, our minds, and our heart. Renew our spirit, Lord. Guide our choices and remind us that each seemingly small effort honors you.

Give me strength when I fail to give myself the grace that you give me every day. It's in your precious womb, I pray. Amen.
