Rest, Refuel, Repeat-Biblical Self-Care for the Worn-Out Mama

Why Rest Matters:

Rest is God’s design, not just a luxury. It’s part of the Sabbath principle and honoring God with our bodies. Sabbath rest is a command.

    • Lack of rest leads to burnout, poor decision-making (like emotional eating), and weakened faith. 
    • Overcommitment, too much time on your phone, these are all opportunities to build more rest into your life

Rest vs. Guilt:
Many Christian women struggle with guilt over resting or taking time for self-care.

Guilt is a tactic of the enemy that leads to shame and condemnation and there is no place for that in God’s kingdom. 

Rest as a Tool for Weight Loss:

  • How rest improves metabolism, hormone balance, and energy levels, which support weight loss.

    The mind-body-spirit connection: physical rest helps emotional and spiritual renewal, reducing stress-eating triggers. 

  • Refueling Body and Soul:

  • The importance of nourishing food, hydration, and sleep.

    Spiritual refueling: prayer, worship, Scripture reading as restorative practices.

    Emotional self-care: community, journaling, expressing feelings honestly with God.

    Here are 4 steps you can take to build in a habit of rest

  • Set Boundaries:

    Practical ways to protect rest time (e.g., say no to extra tasks, delegate, schedule “quiet time”).


  • Create a Rest Routine:

    • Ideas for daily and weekly rhythms of rest and renewal — like Sabbath moments, evening wind-down rituals.


  • Simple Self-Care Practices:

    • Quick spiritual habits: 5-minute prayers, Scripture memorization.

    • Physical rest tips: power naps, hydration reminders.

    • Emotional health tips: gratitude journaling, sharing struggles with a trusted friend or mentor.

      Heavenly Father, you know how hard it is for me to rest. Please instill a spirit of calm in my life and help me to set healthy boundaries with myself and others. Help me to see rest as a way to honor Your and show me areas of my life where I need to say no. Lead me Lord, thank You for Holy Spirit guidance and that You take all my burdens, help me to lay them down. In Jesus’s most Holy Name, amen.
