The Scale Isn't the Final Say: What God Says About Your Weight Loss
1 Samuel 16:7 (NLT) – “People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Here are 3 things you can do NOW to work towards viewing your body as God does.
- Journal 3 non-scale victories from the past week. NON-SCALE, more water, less screen time, more steps, more bible time…what’s yours?
- Pray and ask God what He sees in your progress. Ask Him to inspire your prayer and health journey to reflect what He would have you do.
- Choose 1 new habit goal that honors your body instead of obsessing over your weight. Maybe give your scale away or choose to weigh in once a week regardless of what you did.
“Lord, thank You that You see my heart. Help me to value progress through Your eyes and not be discouraged by what the scale says. I trust You with my body and my journey.”

Every day, I struggle to see myself as God does.
I struggle with unhealthy thoughts about my body and my weight.
I gained 100 pounds in my late 20s after unresolved sexual assault, and the stretch marks and the scars are a constant reminder of walking away from God when I needed him the most.
Today, I am so thankful that he never walked away from me.
I want to see myself as God does, and I imagine that you do too.
So how to remove the power of the scale?
How do we just use it as a tool?
If necessary, and how do we start to lean on God's truth about our progress instead of what the world or our flesh says that we should be or what we should weigh?
The scale isn't the final say.
It's what God says about our progress.
So let's see what his holy word has to say.
Stay tuned.
Are you sick of trying diet after diet and not losing weight?
Are you tired of doubting your ability to actually lose weight in a healthy way?
Do you wish you could find a laid out for you plan that will help you stay accountable to your goals?
Hey friends, I'm Lindy Schlabach, Christian Fitness & Nutrition Coach.
I gained 100 pounds in my late 20s and struggled for years to get it off.
So grab your pre-workout and let's chat.
So after some prayer and reflection, I really feel like God is calling me to give you the opportunity to do a one-hour coaching.
I know for a lot of people right now, the Biblical Weight Loss Framework is not something that people want to spend money on, and so I want to give you the opportunity for one-hour coaching with me.
So for one hour, it will be $79 and I'm going to do 30-minute sessions for $59.
You can sign up for coaching and to schedule at herweightlossmindset.com.

So 1 Samuel 16, 7 says, People judged by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
So we want to be healthy, right?
But what does healthy look like from a biblical perspective?
We know that the Bible doesn't talk about a goal weight, right?
It doesn't talk about abs, it doesn't talk about weighing certain number or wearing a certain pants size.
What does the word talk about?
The verse above gives us a look at what God sees.
People judged by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
So how can we adopt a similar thought process?
I want to give you three tips today that will help.
The first tip, the scale is not is a tool.
It is not a truth teller of your worth.
The scale is a tool.
It is not a truth teller of your worth.
The scale does not measure if you had a bad night's sleep or if you are PMSing or so many different things.
The scale can be a tool, not a truth teller of your worth.
The second tip, God measures your progress in surrender, not numbers.
So I really want to challenge you to ask yourself, WWJD, why don't we wear those bracelets anymore?
What would Jesus do?
I want you to ask yourself that question before you eat, before you grocery shop, before you prep, or before you feel like you want to have a snap.
WWJD, write it on your wrist.
God measures progress in surrender.
It is obedience to the Holy Spirit, not the outcome.
The third tip, I want you to really consider this, that true transformation is spiritual, emotional, and physical growth.
Notice the first one, it's spiritual.
It's spiritual first.
It's connecting to the Holy Spirit in you.
It's emotional.
It's healing.
The promise and the triggers that have led you to the place that you are in your life today.
And then comes the physical.
And that's what we work on in the Biblical Weight Loss Framework.
And that's what we can talk about in your coaching call.
How do we learn to focus on the spiritual?
How do we heal the emotional?
That will eventually lead to the physical growth.
I promise you, God can do a lot more with your obedience and your surrender than He can your failed attempts at control.
But the struggle is real.
I feel this.
Sometimes I look in the mirror and still see 250-pound Lindy.
But that is not God's truth.
He's looking at my heart.
He's seeing your heart posture every single day.
He sees your desire and willingness to lay down your control.
And he knows that your flesh is fighting against you.
The enemy is fighting against you.
And he sees you.
And he sees your desire and your diligence.
But he wants you to lay it down at the cross.
He wants you to surrender it.
And it's up to us to pray and ask him to take these parts, to reveal the hidden broken things that you haven't healed from yet.
And to do the work in your life and in your heart and your spiritual, emotional and physical growth that only he can do.
So I'm going to give you three tips that you can do now, now today, right now, to work towards viewing your body and yourself as God does.
The first one is I want you to write down three non-scale victories from the past week.
Whether you've been working on your weight loss journey or not, write down three non-scale victories from the past week.
Non-scale.
Did you drink more water?
Did you spend less time scrolling on social media?
Maybe you got in more steps or went for a walk with the family after dinner.
Are you waking up early with intention and not picking up your phone and praying and spending time in the word?
These are non-scale victories that add up to consistent, lifelong, sustainable results.
Did someone offer you a sweet treat that you hadn't planned in your micro plan and you said no, thank you.
Did you eat more vegetables?
Did you snack less?
Did you pack your lunch?
All of these are non-scale victories.
There is no victory too small.
It is these seemingly tiny things that add up to consistent results and changes in your thought process.
The second thing I want you to do is pray and ask God what He sees in your progress.
Ask Him to inspire your prayer in your health journey, to reflect what He would have you do.
Lord, show me what it is that I need.
Show me who you see in me.
God knew who you would be before Genesis 1.
Before He said, let there be light, He knew exactly who you would be.
He numbered the hairs on your head.
We read in scripture that He clothed the sparrows and He gives them what they need.
Why would He not do the same for you?
Little skin will be given to you and if you ask according to God's will, it will be given to you in due time.
But it comes with your surrender and obedience, not your control and your strive and your try.
It's never going to work until you learn to lean into the Holy Spirit call and conviction in your life and then walk it out in Holy Spirit obedience.
That is the only way.
I will repeat that until the day that I die, until we all figure it out because I know I struggle at this every single day.
You are not your weight.
You are not your pant size.
You are not who the world says you are.
You are who the creator of the universe created you to be.
And yeah, if you're listening to this podcast, you're probably stuck in the middle of your weight loss journey.
And that's okay.
We all start somewhere.
When we start to lean in and see and seek God's word about our progress, that is when we don't even care about the scale.
Yeah, it can be a great tool once a week, but it does not measure our progress.
The third thing I want you to do now is choose one new habit goal that honors your body instead of obsessing about your weight.
Maybe you need to give your scale away or throw it in the trash.
Maybe you need to weigh in once a week, regardless of what you ate or the workouts that maybe you weren't able to do.
I struggle here too.
If I'm eating off plan, I don't want to weigh in on Friday mornings.
But there have been so many times that the scale actually has gone down because my body has been given the fuel that she needs in order to function and process.
And if you're not eating enough of the right foods, if you're not getting in your healthy balance of protein, fat, and carbs, the scale will not move.
Choose one new goal, one new habit that you're going to incorporate.
If you want to weigh in once a week, fantastic.
But don't weigh in any more than that.
I'd love to know which habit you're going to incorporate.
Or all of them.
I hope that you'll do all of them.
Journal your three non-scale victories.
Journal them every single day.
That's going to help you see what you did last week, and you're going to want to expand on that this week.
Pray and ask God what he sees in your progress.
Ask him to inspire your prayer in your health journey, in your movement patterns, in your shopping, in your maybe ability to cook foods instead of processed junk from the middle of the grocery store.
And then choose one new habit goal that honors your body instead of obsessing about the scale.
People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.
Heavenly Father, thank you that you see my heart.
Help me to value true progress through your eyes and not be discouraged by what the scale says.
Invict me, challenge me, Lord.
Help me to focus on consistency, to spend time with you and in your word and focus on that spiritual, emotional, then physical growth.
I trust you with my body.
I trust you with my health journey.
Please forgive me for not allowing you into my weight loss journey, Lord.
I lay it down at the foot of the cross and I ask you to inspire and encourage me today.
I love you so much and ask this in your precious and willing name.
Amen.
