5 Ways to Stay on Track with Your Weight Loss When You’re Always with Your Kids
💪 Remember: God isn’t measuring your worth by how “fit” you are — but He is cheering you on as you honor Him with small steps of faith. Choosing to enjoy the season you’re in is KEY to staying on track with your goals.
You don’t need big blocks of time — you need micro moments of alignment with God and health. Here are 5 things you can do today:
- Set your alarm 10-15 minutes early to ensure time to yourself. I wake up 2.5 hours before peanut to make sure I get my time with Jesus and in the word, my workout and breakfast done before she wakes up. That forces me to be productive in the evening and get to bed in time to get my 7 hours of sleep. Or 6.5 if I’m being honest.
- Anchor 2 minutes of prayer while brushing your teeth. God doesn’t care when you pray, He cares THAT you pray. When I’m rocking Atalie, I pray, when I exercise, I pray. Just talk to Him, staying in constant communication with Him will help you stay patient when your little one clings to you.
- Walk while pushing the stroller and listen to worship or Scripture. We play our worship music from the time she wakes up through our walk with Dory, it is key for both of us to get our Jesus jams in the morning.
- Choose movement over workouts — dance parties count! Just move. Walk in place, carry your little for a bit, I have a walking workout I do sometimes, and I carry her for an added 20 pounds, that’s extra weight which means extra calories burned, BONUS!
Invite your kids to join you in the kitchen, prepping snacks or making smoothies. Your littles just want to be involved in what you’re doing. Don’t distract them with a screen, get them involved in your process. Let them help you workout and food prep, you’re creating healthy habits that will be instilled in them for life which only leads to their kids and their kids mirroring your habits.

So I know in June, the last episode, we talked about moms.
Today, we're talking about moms.
I just I really feel an urge to talk to moms, especially moms who are staying home with their kids this summer.
My teacher friends that are out of school for the summer.
Like there is just a lot going on in the households of moms who are home with their kids in the summer.
It's a total focus, like a total refocus.
I became a new mom seven months ago.
We adopted the most precious, beautiful little girl, and it is a complete and total life change.
Like you are readjusting, and even if you're a mom who's had kids home for many summers before, I know my sisters-in-law always say like, the first couple of weeks is a madness, and then we adjust into our routine.
So this story is for all the moms who have kids that are attached to you like glue 24 seven.
There have been times where I've had to do a video with my baby in the room, and when that happens sometimes it takes me 45 minutes to do a 30-minute workout.
She is so good for the most part, but she oftentimes wants to be held, and I want to hold her, but I also want to have time to fill my own cup.
And sometimes I feel selfish for wanting to have this time to myself, so I ask God, what do I need to do to make sure I get the time in that I need for myself?
And that's when He gently reminded me that He sees it all, and He's not asking me to be perfect, and if it takes me 45 minutes to do a 30-minute workout, that's okay.
It's the effort, it's the obedience to move as He calls me to, and He reminded me to use my time wisely, to limit my screen time, and to get up early.
So, let's see what Isaiah 40, chapter 11 has to say.
In this, I'm reading from the NLT, it says, He will feed his flock like a shepherd.
He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart.
He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young.
God knows the season that you're in.
And even if it's hard for you every year and you think, you know what, my kids are in high school, I should be used to getting like this crazy schedule, it's a different season.
It's a different season because they're older, things are changing, it's okay.
This verse shows us three powerful truths.
One, God sees moms with littles and he leads us gently.
Two, he isn't frustrated with your pace.
He walks with you at your speed.
And three, he will carry both you and your children when you feel like you can't go another step.
So you don't need big blocks of time.
You need micro moments of alignment with God and health.
So I want you to grab your pen.
I'm gonna give you a quick second.
And I wanna share with you four things that you can do today to work towards your goals, even when those kids are grappling for every second of your time and attention.
Are you ready?
Okay, step one.
I want you to set your alarm 10 to 15 minutes early to ensure that you are getting time to yourself.
Personally, I wake up two and a half hours before Peanut to make sure that I get my time with Jesus, I get in the Word, I get my workout done, and breakfast before she wakes up.
This is what forces me to be productive in the evening and get to bed in time to get my seven hours of sleep, or six and a half if I'm being honest.
Now, what does that mean?
That means limiting screen time.
The less time we spend on social media, the less I wanna spend on social media.
And that has been such an eye opener for me.
Like Facebook doesn't add anything to my life.
Yes, I love to see what people are doing, connect with people, and like encourage people, and it fills my cup, but it's not like the thing that I need every day.
I need God and I need to spend time with my family.
So step two, anchor two minutes of prayer, maybe while you're brushing your teeth, or in that time where you're getting up early.
Make sure that you're going to a quiet spot.
God doesn't need you to spend 20 minutes in prayer.
He doesn't need you to be in a certain place.
Just talk to him.
He doesn't care when you pray.
He cares that you pray.
So a lot of times when I'm rocking Atalie, I pray.
When I exercise, I pray.
Just talk to him and staying in constant communication with him will help you stay patient when your little one clings to you and you feel like you just are getting nothing done.
Remember to lean on the Holy Spirit.
Step 3.
I said I was giving you 4 things today, but I'm actually going to give you 5.
Step 3 is walk while pushing the stroller and listening to worship music or maybe scripture through your Bible app.
We play worship music from the time she wakes up and through our walk with Dory.
It is key for both of us to get our Jesus jams in the morning.
It just reinvigorates us, refuels us, and it just helps us to keep those positive words through our head through the day.
Step 4.
Just choose movement even if it's over a workout.
Dance parties count.
Just move.
Walk in place.
Carry your little one for a bit.
I have a walking workout that I do sometimes, and I carry her for an added 20 pound bonus.
It's extra weight, which means your extra calories are burning.
Which is a double bonus, right?
Step 5.
I want you to invite your kids to join you in the kitchen, prepping snacks or making smoothies.
Your little kids want to just be involved in what you're doing.
So don't distract them with a screen, okay?
Get them involved in what it is that you're doing.
Let them help you work out.
Food prep.
You are creating healthy habits that will be instilling them for life, which only leads to their kids and their kids mirroring your habits.
You are creating generational habits for decades to come.
So it's okay to want to have some time to yourself.
However, if that's just not the season of life that you're in, just embrace it.
Your kids will only be that age for a certain amount of time.
Like I read something a couple months ago and it said, they've never been as old as they are today and they've never been as young and they're as young as they'll ever be again.
So just embrace the moment.
If it means that you skip a workout, that's okay.
Maybe God needs you to just be still with your children.
God is not measuring your worth by how fit you are.
But he is cheering you on as you honor him with small steps of faith.
And choosing to enjoy the season that you're in is key to staying on track with your goals.
Our littles are only little for so long, then they'll be out of the house and you wish you had these times back.
So enjoy it, embrace it.
The time that we get with them is so limited.
You can make time for yourself, but it may take some time to adjust.
Getting up early, making time for yourself first so you can be present with them while they're awake, not scrolling on social media.
Making sure that you're getting outside for an hour a day.
Go for walks, go swimming.
Let them get dirty and get dirty with them.
Let them help you plant the garden in water.
Let them help you pick worms if you're going fishing.
And it's okay to ask dad to take a turn in the evenings if you haven't got your workout in.
Tell him how important it is for you to be healthy for your family inside and out.
And I promise you, he does wanna help.
He just needs a little bit of direction.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for seeing this mom in her mess and in her movement.
Remind her that she has not forgotten.
Help her to find grace in the chaos, strength in your spirit, and joy in each small act of faithfulness.
We ask this in your name.
Amen.
Hey sis, I hope you enjoyed today's episode.
If so, would you take 30 seconds and share it with a friend?
Also, please leave a quick review for the show on Apple Podcast.
It lights me up to know this podcast is helping you.
Okay, it's time to go make a protein shake and get my sweat on.
No more standing in the kitchen waiting for motivation to appear.
I will meet you back here for another episode.
God bless.
