Summer Slump? 3 Reasons Moms Quit on Health in June & How to Refocus
3 Reasons Moms Quit on Their Health in June
- No structure = No self-care
Without school routines, our schedule gets hijacked. Suddenly we’re reactive instead of proactive. - We’re emotionally & physically exhausted
Little people need a lot. It’s hard to make salads and push play on a workout when you haven’t sat down in 6 hours or had a normal night's sleep. - We fear we’ve failed again
The voice of shame creeps in: “See? You never stick with it.” But that voice isn’t from God.
(Galatians 6:9 NLT)
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest if we don’t give up.”
Here are 3 ways you can refocus your summer goals and let God lead:
- Create 1 micro habit you can keep even in chaos (e.g. drink water before coffee)- wake up 15 minutes earlier than normal.
- Anchor your mornings in prayer before the day runs you. Get in the word daily, even a 3 minute read will fuel your day.
- Let go of perfection — pursue progress- we focus on obedience to the Holy Spirit, regardless of the outcome, this way God's plan comes before our need for control.

So every year my birthday comes and I set some kind of weight loss goal.
This year is no different.
It's summer, I live on a lake, I'm a new mom, I want to be fit, and 43 is coming quick.
June 17th, oh my goodness.
But sometimes, usually in the spring for whatever reason, I just crave all the junk food after I've been so diligent all winter and I find myself giving up on all the work I did.
I forget that my goals may not be what God has for me and my poor food choices are keeping me from walking in the obedience He calls me to.
Can you relate to that?
Please tell me I'm not alone.
So I just want to ask you, are we focusing on His will?
Or are we focusing on our vanity or lack of plan or maybe our lack of time management?
I know summer can be a struggle to keep going, but I just want you to hang in there.
It's also a great time to set goals and refocus.
We get to be outside more and we want to be active and healthy, right?
I know you do.
Maybe you're a stay at home mom with kids home in the summer or a mama who works and has to have a new plan for summer.
Maybe you're a career woman who just wants to make more time for herself and to be outside.
But wherever you may find yourself, just know that you're not alone in your struggle to stay the course.
Today I'm going to share three ways to quit quitting on your goals this summer, so grab your iced coffee and let's get to work.
So three reasons that moms usually quit on their health in June is there's no structure or self-care.
Without school routines, our schedules get hijacked and suddenly we are reactive instead of proactive.
Another reason we quit on our health in June is that we're emotionally and physically exhausted.
Our little people require a lot.
And it's hard to make salads and push play on a workout when you haven't sat down in six hours or had a normal night's sleep, whatever that is.
And sometimes we fear we failed again and the voice of shame creeps in and says, see, you never stick with it.
But I want to reassure you that that voice is not from God.
Galatians 6.9 is one of my favorite and one I share with you a lot.
It says, so let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reparvest if we do not give up.
So I want to encourage you today with three ways that you can refocus on your summer goals and let God lead your health journey.
Step one is to create one micro habit that you can keep even in the chaos.
Maybe drink water before coffee.
I always make myself drink anywhere from 16 to 32 ounces of water before my first sip of coffee.
It helps my body wake up.
It detoxes.
It's a great boundary to set in the morning.
Maybe you need to wake up 15 minutes earlier than normal.
That can be one micro habit that you can keep.
It's so incredible what happens when you wake up before your kiddos.
Step two, anchor your mornings in prayer before the day runs you.
Get in the word every single day.
Even a three-minute read will fuel your day.
I'm reading in Colossians right now, and I'm telling you what.
There are so many good nuggets in Colossians.
It's a quick chapter or quick book.
Hop in there and read it and let Paul's letter to the church just inspire you and rejuvenate your purpose.
Anchor your mornings in prayer before the day runs you the first thought in your mind when you wake up is, thank you, Jesus, for this day.
Get in the work, open it up, smell the pages, feel the pages, and let the Holy Spirit speak to you in a way that only he can.
Step 3, we're letting go of perfection.
We are pursuing progress.
When we focus on obedience to the Holy Spirit regardless of the outcome, God's plan comes before our need for control or weight loss or vanity or whatever it is that's pushing us to reach this goal.
Let those goals be Holy Spirit focused.
Let them be inspired by the word of God.
It is going to make all the difference in your level of burnout.
Heavenly Father, you see this working woman, this wife, and this mama, you know her struggle and you are not disappointed in her.
Remind her that you are with her even in the chaos and that every small step toward health matters to you.
Help her not to grow weary but to trust in your timing and your strength.
We thank you Father and we ask these things in Jesus precious name.
Amen.
