Listen, I know all about buying into diet culture, from cabbage soup to calorie counting, South Beach diet, all the supplements, shakes, and promises for weight loss.

But listen, none of those ever prove sustainable.

And if you've ever bought into these things like me, you've probably found the same results to be true.

I even found legalistic tendencies in my body meal program.

I followed that program for years.

Two years ago, God called me to follow a macro-based type of eating, and it has changed everything I believe about nutrition and weight loss.

So what does the Bible say about dieting?

Spoiler alert, it doesn't say anything.

Not one word, not one time in the Bible does it ever mention the word dieting.

I've read the Bible over and over since October of 2016.

I've never ever once read about diets or abs or goal weights.

Dieting is not a biblical principle.

Dieting keeps us distracted and full of fear and doubt and distraction from God's purpose.

But here are three things that are biblical when it comes to your body.

Your body is God's temple.

He lives inside of you if he is your personal savior.

So let him guide your choices.

He will.

Galatians 2.20 says, I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.

The Holy Spirit lives inside of you.

Christ, who resurrected from the dead, lives in you.

You have resurrection power in you.

You don't need dieting.

You need to tap into the Holy Spirit and let him lead.

This is the whole premise of the biblical weight loss framework.

We read in Galatians, says, but the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, goodness, and self-control.

Against these things, there is no law.

Self-discipline is in you.

Self-control is in you if Christ is in you.

You can operate in his power instead of your weakness.

If you start to operate in this heart capacity, you will always win.

I've been preaching this one a lot, fam.

Listen up.

Let it penetrate into your heart.

1 Corinthians 1031 says, So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

It's all that whatever you do.

John 15, 5.

I have it tattooed on my arm real big.

I'm the vine and you are the branches.

If you remain in me and I remain in you, you will bear much fruit.

Apart from me, you can do nothing.

This is the premise of God's word.

Listen, diets are so last year.

Let's eat in moderation, pray over our choices, and ask for godly wisdom in all we do, especially how we fuel our bodies and move our bodies and speak to our bodies.

Macros gave me an idea of how underfed I actually was and what my body actually needs.

Prayerful, intuitive eating is always the end goal, but a macro plan will at least help you get started without eliminating food groups.

I send you weekly tips on how to get into God's Word.

I'll share podcast episodes.

I'll give you weekly tips on how to lean into the Holy Spirit in this part of your life.

Dieting is never going to get you to your weight loss goal.

Releasing, shame, surrendering to Christ, learning to walk in that obedience to the Holy Spirit regardless of the outcome.

Forget the weight loss.

The enemy loves it when we're distracted and focused on ourselves, but we're not doing that anymore.

The call of the Great Commission is to make disciples wherever we go and baptize them in the name of the Holy Spirit.

How can we do that if we're inward focused?

Social media keeps us so focused on all we don't have and all the things we think we want or think we need, and we don't.

To be honest, the only thing that we need in this world, in this life, is a connection to Christ, is Jesus to be the Lord of your life.

Let the weight loss go.

Forget diet culture.

Let it go.

Eat food.

Eat food.

Live in balance.

I just started reading the 40 Day Sugar Fast for the second time in a row.

I started the sugar fast, and I think I made it two weeks before I slipped.

Listen, when I share these things with you, it's never because I have it all figured out.

It's something that God continues to work in my life.

Yesterday, he told me to fast.

I fasted for like 18 hours, and then I broke it.

I was not obedient.

I struggle right alongside of you.

But this morning, he reminded me that his grace is sufficient.

His power is made perfect in my weakness.

We can do nothing without him.

I let my flesh overtake me most days, in one way or another, the way I speak, or the way I think about myself.

You are not alone, but it is never too late.

We can make a decision in the next choice, in the next moment.

We're not waiting until tomorrow.

We're not waiting until next Monday.

We are making different choices today.

Holy Father, please break the chains that are keeping us stuck in a cycle of diet culture and defeat.

We know this is not sustainable weight loss.

We know that you are the only thing that we need in this life, Lord, and remove the distractions, remove the temptation to buy in, to spend money that we don't have, or spend money on things that we just don't really need.

Let us have an outward focused approach.

Let us find ways that we can serve other people, so we're not so focused on self.

Father, you tell us to love others as we love ourselves, but we have to love ourselves first.

And that doesn't come from diets or weight loss.

That comes from leaning into the Holy Spirit, Father.

Please fill us with what we need today, and let us walk in your resurrection power.

We thank you.

We love you.

It's in Holy Name.

Amen.
