So even today, oh my goodness, waking up after gaining weight since bringing the baby home, I have struggled to see myself as God does.
Nothing I share with you is ever anything that I haven't been through before.
So those first few weeks I either didn't eat or ate what was easy, that had been brought to us.
We were so grateful for the many meals that people brought.
It wasn't things that I was used to eating.
So holding a lot of inflammation, I wasn't sleeping well, I did not feel rested.
A few days I managed to get my workouts in, but that was about it.
And it's easy to seek our identity and our weight and our appearance, especially with the world, shoving it down our face, especially with the work that I do.
But that is a tactic of the enemies to place fear and doubt in the minds of God's children.
So today we're going to take back our negative thoughts.
We are going to toss them up to Christ, and we are going to make positive and healthy mindset shifts in our weight loss journey.
So I'm going to give you 4 verses that you can take and apply into your life.
Write these down.
Are you ready?
2 Corinthians 10 5.
It says, We demolish arguments and every pretense that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.
Every thought.
I'm going to read that again.
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.
If you think about the thoughts that you've thought already today, what of those were positive that you know came from the Holy Spirit, and what were those of shame or your past or someone that spoke negativity over your life?
What are the things that you have spoke over yourself today?
What are the feelings that you're feeling or voicing?
Taking every thought captive means that before you bring in or welcome that unhealthy thought, you are saying, okay, Lord, is this coming from you?
Because if not, please take it from me.
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God.
If something is good, it's from God.
If it isn't, it isn't.
And we have to learn to discern the Holy Spirit.
We have to learn to discern what is truth and what is not.
And getting in the Word every day, waking up with intention, in prayer every day, seeking God's voice, seeking that still small voice, that is going to be the difference in changing unhealthy mindsets.
You can lose the weight.
You can reach every goal that you have in your heart.
If it's there, if it continues to stay there, that is a pull.
That is Holy Spirit conviction that is telling you that it's time to lay down your try, lay down your strive, and start surrendering your choices and your thoughts to Christ.
He is there and he is listening.
1 Corinthians 10 31, So whatever you do, so whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
I always put that whatever you do part first because I think it's just so clear.
I read another Proverb this morning that also said whatever you do.
There's a lot of areas in the Bible that says whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10 31, the Corinthian Church was really facing times of struggle.
Paul was writing this letter to remind them to state a course.
What we do, we do for the glory of God.
In that time, people in the Christian Church, they were still struggling with the sexual immorality, the drunkenness, the orgies, all of the things that were going on at the time.
The pagan worship to idols and the meat and what do we eat?
Do we not eat this?
Do we eat that?
And he was saying, so whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
So learning to pray first before you eat, before you drink, whatever you do, we are here to honor God in our choices.
And if you truly want to break these chains of unhealthy mindsets that are keeping you from believing you can actually lose the weight, you have to get in the Word and see what God says.
Philippians 4 13, we hear it all the time, but do we actually apply it to our lives and believe it?
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
What things can we do?
We can do all things.
Do you believe that?
Are you clinging to that truth?
It's not just a sign that we read that we hang on our wall.
It is the power of the Word living inside of the Gospel of Christ.
I can do all things because He's in us.
If Christ is your personal Savior, He lives inside of you.
We're operating on His strength, His discipline, His love, His joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, and goodness.
It is in Him that we can accomplish all things.
Isaiah 55, 8 and 9 says, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor my ways your ways, declares the Lord.
As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts your thoughts.
If you think for one second that God doesn't care about your weight loss goals, He does.
But He wants you to surrender and stop the try, stop the strive, stop the calorie counting, stop eating sugar, stop eating your feelings, and stop body shaming yourself.
You are perfectly made in the image of Christ.
Your identity is in Him.
It's not in a weight loss goal.
But when you can start to lay down these things, when you wake up with intention every single morning and seek His will over your own, then He can start to do the work in you that only you can do.
He'll start to reveal those triggers that are keeping you stuck.
When we have the mind of Christ, we can take those unhealthy thoughts captive and replace them with His truth.
But this is a daily commitment that requires being in prayer and spending time in the Word every single day.
We're not waking up and scrolling on our phones anymore.
Social media does not serve us at all.
We are waking up with gratitude that Christ gave us another day.
We are waking up with gratitude that we have a Bible in our home.
We are waking up with gratitude with the simple fact that we have hands and feet and eyes and thoughts and arms and legs that we can go out and do the work of God.
We can and we will achieve long lasting sustainable weight loss when we can learn to surrender, fully surrender to our Creator.
Are you going to lean on one of these promises in these verses today?
Pick one verse and plant it in your heart.
And when doubt comes, you're prepared.
You don't have to memorize every single verse.
Pick one.
2 Corinthians 10 5, 1 Corinthians 10 31, Philippians 4 13, or Isaiah 55 8 and 9.
Pick one.
One thing, the living, breathing, life-giving word of God is at your disposal at all times.
He alone is our hope.
He alone is our true.
He alone is our sustainer.
When we wake up with daily intention to live a life for Him, it becomes about so much more than weight loss.
We lose the weight because we're not focused on ourselves.
We are selfish and vain by nature.
It's our human nature.
It's our flesh.
But when the Holy Spirit lives inside of you, you can battle those thoughts.
You have to pray them away.
Prayer will crowd out the world.
When we crowd out the world, watch how He will transform your thought process.
He'll heal your body and He'll make you whole.
And pretty soon, you're not even going to recognize your body because you've lost the weight.
But it isn't about that.
It's about obedience to the Holy Spirit, regardless of the outcome of the weight loss.
Get in your Bible, wake up early, spend time in the Word, give God your first fruits, not your lukewarm leftovers at the end of the day.
Of course, He doesn't mind you falling asleep in prayer.
But when you wake up with intention, with prayer, with asking Him to dig up your seats, reveal to me, Lord, search me and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Remember that Psalm 139, 23 and 24 verse?
I talk about it all the time.
Stop doubting the fact that you want to lose weight.
If you want to lose weight in a biblical way, lay it down, lay it down, give it to God.
We've got to remove the idea of food for comfort and go to the only one who can truly comfort us.
You can do this.
You can do this.
I believe in you.
God is in you.
He believes in you.
He loves you.
And he wants to take over this area of your life.
Lay it down.
Surrender it.
It's time to let it go.
