What Would Jesus Eat? Biblical Lessons for Healthy Living

Lindy Schlabach - Christian Mindset & Weight Loss Coach Season 1 Episode 56

What if we ate like Jesus? I imagine his meals were simple, intentional and often shared. What did he eat? What was he focusing on while He was eating? Fellowship.

Balance. Moderation. Enjoying food and being in the moment instead of cravings. Read Proverbs 25:16 that teaches about gluttony.

How to eat like Jesus:
1. Eat more whole foods and less processed.
2. Practice gratitude before eating.
3. Host meals and be in fellowship with your people.

When we are outward focused instead of inward, eating becomes about who were with rather than what we're actually eating.

Are you sick of trying diet after diet and NOT losing weight?

What if we ate like Jesus ate?

What if?

Think about the meals that you've had this week already.

What would it look like if we started to eat like Jesus did?

His meals were simple, they were intentional, and oftentimes they were shared with other people.

Hubs and I have been doing a discipleship group for about a year and a half now, and one of the books we're reading talks about the oikos, and the oikos is the group or community that you surround yourself with.

And I think of Jesus in his oikos when he's breaking bread with the disciples, he's meeting with tax collectors at their house, and they're breaking bread, and he's often found in different places eating with people.

And isn't it such an amazing thing where you share a meal with someone and you feel like you know them?

What if we started focusing on the people that we're with instead of the taste buds or a craving?

What if?

What if we started to eat like Jesus did?

Hey, sister, welcome to Her Weight Loss Mindset.

Are you sick of trying diet after diet and not losing weight?

Do you wish you could find easy meal prep ideas for your family so you're not standing in the kitchen yet again, wondering what everyone is going to eat for dinner that's in line with your goals?

Do you spend hours Googling easy workouts but then have no time to do them because your motivation only goes so far?

Hey there, friend, I'm Lindy Schlabach, Christian Fitness & Nutrition Coach, encourager and friend.

I gained 100 pounds in my late 20s and struggled for years to get it off.

Seven years ago, I found a basic system that works and has helped me lose over 90 of those pounds.

I've been working with women in online fitness and nutrition ever since.

In this podcast, I'll teach you how to lose weight in a way that honors God without obsessing about the scale and meal plan and prep for your family.

And follow a macro based plan that allows you to eat the foods you love while you reach your goals.

It's time to give God your health journey and watch him make you new from the inside out.

You've got this, sister.

Now go grab your pre-workout or your third coffee like me and let's chat.

What do you think Jesus would eat?

There are so many biblical lessons for healthy living.

The Bible is chock full of verses that talk about food.

We think of the fish that fed 5,000.

We think of the loaves of bread.

We think of figs.

What other things did Jesus eat?

Probably olive oil, maybe seeds of that day.

And think about the nutritional value.

Everything he was eating came from the ground.

We think about what would Jesus eat and all of the reasons biblically for living healthy.

What does that look like in our own lives?

How can we take and apply the lessons taught in the Word?

Look at the New Testament specifically.

Jesus' entire ministry was about connecting with people.

It was about getting to know them and how better to do that than sitting around the table with people.

There are just, when I think about sitting around a table with people and you're enjoying food, and maybe you're having a glass of wine if that's your thing, or maybe you're enjoying a piece of dessert, or you're just eating a meal together.

You're not thinking about the calories.

You're not thinking about, oh my gosh, this is completely off my meal plan, or you're not thinking about all of these things because you're just in the moment with people that you love.

We hope that, anyway, we become outward focused.

We should be outward focused anyway.

It is better to give than to receive.

The call of the Great Commission is to go out and make disciples, and that's what Jesus was doing.

He was enjoying meals with people, building this Oikos community.

He was building his discipleship.

He was meeting with people and showing them just the love of Jesus.

That's the point.

That's the entire premise of our entire lives.

So if you would like to eat like Jesus, here's a couple of things you can do.

Start incorporating more whole and natural foods.

Start shopping the perimeter of your grocery store.

We've talked about praying before we shop.

Ask him, okay, Lord, what is it that I need to incorporate more into my meals?

Maybe fish, maybe sweet potatoes, maybe a new different kind of vegetable that you're not used to.

Incorporate more whole, natural foods.

And then you're gonna practice gratitude before eating.

When we focus on gratitude and the blessings that he has given us, it's not about what we're gonna eat.

It's about the people around our table.

And if nobody's around your table, that's fine.

We can still practice gratitude in all things.

Practicing gratitude forces us to look outward instead of inward.

And the third tip is we are going to host meals with friends.

Fellowship with your people.

Make new friends.

Fellowship with new people around your table.

I don't care if you're not a good cook, order pizzas, invite your friends over.

Like, fellowship with people.

It's not about the food that we're eating.

It's about the people that we're with.

It's about growing an oikos community.

When we think about what would Jesus eat, he would eat whatever he could so that he could grow his ministry and share the word and the love of God.

So, there are a million biblical lessons for living healthy.

Which one are you going to penetrate into your heart today?

Which verse in the word sticks out to you most?

Last week, we talked about, I think it was 1 Corinthians, whatever you do, eat or drink, do it all for the glory of God.

That's a great one.

Romans.

There's a ton of verses that talk about our bodies and them being a living sacrifice, and we're not supposed to conform to the pattern of the world, and all of these different things about how to love our bodies and live a biblically healthy life.

So I want to know, which one are you going to take and apply into your life today?

Hey, sweets.

I hope you enjoyed today's episode.

If so, would you take 30 seconds and share it with a friend who may also want to lose weight without all the dieting and restriction?

Also, please leave a quick review for the show on Apple Podcasts.

It lights me up to know this podcast is helping you.

Okay, it's time to go make a protein shake and get my sweat on.

No more standing in the kitchen waiting for motivation to appear.

I'll meet you back next week for another episode.

Be blessed!
