LIVE COACHING! Temptation and Cravings. How to Create Healthy Thoughts Around Weight Loss

Lindy Schlabach Season 1 Episode 23

Are you struggling with cravings? What do you crave? Do you know what God says about your cravings and food choices? Do you believe He wants to free you from this?

Spoiler alert. He does.

There are so many scriptures about your body, cravings and choices. Learning to pray and let God help you through these cravings is key to moving past them. Why are you craving? Did you know that sugar is 10 times more addictive than heroine? The more sugar you eat, the more you crave. It takes about 3 days for your body to rid itself of those cravings. Pray for strength, spend time each morning praying and ask God for strength. He will provide. Keep grapes, apples and in season fruits in your pantry to help you move through these. Fruit is a natural sugar and carb which are great for energy and satisfy your sweet tooth.

Your body craves what you feed it, feed her fruit, feed her love, feed her positive words and not shame. You're not too far gone; God wants to take this from you!

Are you sick of trying diet after diet and NOT losing weight?

In this podcast, I'll teach you how to:

  • • Lose Weight in a Way that honors God without obsessing about the scale
    • Meal Plan and Prep for Your Family
    • Follow a MACRO based plan that allows you to eat the foods you love.
    • Recognize and pray through triggers keeping you stuck.
    • I’ll help you Plan your week and schedule your self-care time.
    • Cultivate a spirit of self-discipline in your workouts you actually enjoy.

It's time to give God your health journey and watch Him make you new, from the inside, OUT.

All right, shall we pray and get started?

Okay, thank you.

Heavenly Father, for this day, thank you for this time with Nicole.

Thank you for your son.

Thank you for Jesus and his life, death and resurrection.

Lord, let us never take that gift for Grandad.

Lord, we thank you for the Holy Spirit.

We thank you for coming to this call today.

Lord, just fill this time with you.

Let Nicole's heart be open to what you're going to say, Lord, and let my mouth be a willing vessel for you, Lord.

We want this time to honor you and reflect all the things that you want to do through me and for Nicole today.

We just we thank you for what you're going to reveal to us.

We thank you for Nicole's heart, for her willingness to be here, to open up, to share.

And we just thank you for what you're going to do through her, Lord, and that you're going to get all the glory.

We just ask that whatever she needs to dig up or speak, Lord, that you will remind her, that you will give her all of the things that she needs, not just today, but over the course of the next few months and over the many, many blessed and healthy years she's going to have, Lord.

We thank you that we get to honor you with our choices.

So, what's going to be most beneficial for you today?

What do I need to know?

Get started and do my brew time.

It's not that I don't want to do it.

It's more along the fact of I just, five more minutes on the alarm clock.

Both the kids are in bed, one that's sick last night.

Just to be able to, I tried this morning to set it for five o'clock, so then I can get up an hour before the kids.

I didn't get up till quarter till.

What time did you go to bed?

Nine o'clock.

Okay, so is it in a place where you just need rest or is it in a place where you're kind of self-sabotaging?

Self-sabotaging.

Is that, okay.

I am, that is very strong, the self-sabotage.

Is this a new, is it a new feeling?

How long have you been working through it?

My whole life, I feel like.

Very, I'll be good for a little while, and then it's like the enemy creeps back in, and I believe his lies, and then, and I go back to gaining all the weight I've lost, or not exercising, because I just don't feel like I want to, and I need a better mindset in all of this.

Is it, is it the enemy, or is it Fleshy Nicole?

It's probably both.

Okay.

Fleshy Nicole doesn't want to get up and do it, but the enemy is telling her...

You need sleep.

Just stay, yeah, just lay there, don't do this, don't do that.

You're just tight, you're...

Okay, so what do you think in that moment that God would say?

So, you feel convicted to wake up at five, your alarm goes off.

Fleshy Nicole thinks, Oh, five more minutes.

Enemy says, Oh yeah, you deserve that.

But God convicted you the night before to get up and get in prayer.

So, what would he say?.

To get up and do it.

But what, where, like, think of like a verse that, that in that moment that we could point back to.

Idle hands are the work of the enemy.

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

God did not give her the spirit of fear, but the power of love and self-discipline.

I mean, there are countless verses that we can dig up the plans of the righteous.

How does that go?

The plans of the righteous, something, something, and shine ever brighter to the full light of dawn.

In that moment, when your alarm goes off, flesh says, sleep, enemy says, you need to rest, God says, and I will put my spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

He will not let your foot slip.

He who watches over you will not slumber.

Cast your cares on the Lord.

He will sustain you.

He will never let the righteous be shaken.

I keep my eyes always on the Lord.

With him at my right hand I will not be shaken.

Which one was that?

That last one?

I keep my eyes always on the Lord.

With him at my right hand I will not be shaken.

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you.

He will never let the righteous be shaken.

Those are both in Psalm.

One is 55 22 and the other one is 16 8.

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm, let nothing move you.

Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord because you know that your labor is not in vain.

First Corinthians 15 58.

So that, your alarm goes off.

That's the first thought that goes through your head.

There's no time for sleep.

There's no time for the enemy.

That's the verse.

Record it, write it down every day.

Okay, Lord.

And when you wake up in the morning and you go to your flesh, okay, Lord, give me what I need.

That verse will instantly pop in your head.

He will remind you of that.

Read it before you go to bed.

I'm waking up with intention tomorrow morning.

I'm reading this verse.

Thank you, Father, for divine intervention at 5 a.m.

So, something, and I was going to message you when I left the vet and then niece and nephew all weekend and then, you know, life, whatever.

But when I left, you said, we're going to Sylvan Saturday night.

I want to get it out of my, you know, get it out of my system before we start this thing.

I want you to go into life and every day in the mindset that you don't have to get anything out of your system.

If you just want to go out on occasion and do your thing, you do that just because you get to do that.

Not because, you know, we're not going to go eat a big fat cheeseburger and french fries because we're going to start a new plan in a month.

If you want to go out and eat a cheeseburger and french fries, you're going to do that because you want to.

You know what I'm saying?

So I think simple shifts like that in your mind are really going to allow you some freedom to not have to, you know, we've been so stuck on this idea of portion fix and counting containers and yeah, I'm going to create for you a macro plan, but the freedom in that is amazing.

So you get to go out.

You want to have some cocktails.

You want to eat whatever you want.

Do it, plan it.

You're not going to do that every day.

You're allowed to do that when you want to do that.

So I think sometimes just shifting those little thought patterns will be huge for your history of self-sabotage because I was in the same boat a thousand times.

And portion fix, you, you know, flay go off of it a little bit and you're going to pop on some pounds.

Macros, you don't, you just plan.

So shifting those mindsets, I think, are going to help you move from the self-sabotage into, okay, this is where my mind goes, but I'm going to cling to that 1st Corinthians verse instead.

My mind goes to sleep.

I'm going to cling to this verse instead.

Okay, what about another verse for like eating?

Oh, I got all kinds of those.

I'm a sweet person and like I love to just like in there right now, Ryan went and he's the worst because he goes and gets all the junk food and I can't say no.

I know it's there and it eats away at me.

Okay, first of all, you can say no.

I can, I just choose not to.

Yes, okay, so.

Is this really gonna satisfy me?

Is this, because then I just, I eat it and then I feel regret and then I go back and eat more.

Okay, so why are you feeling regret?

Because I shouldn't be eating that stuff.

I shouldn't be eating the candy as much as I do.

I'm not saying that I can't have it, like you said, but I mean, I can eat a lot of Oreo cookies and milk, like.

Like the whole row, bro.

Oh yeah.

Oh yeah, no problemo.

Trust me, I get that.

Okay.

It's hard, it's not that I don't wanna have this stuff in the house, because the kids can have it, but I need to have more willpower to have one or two and be done.

But then it's like, I just keep thinking about it and thinking about it, and I'm like, oh my gosh, there's still so many more and it was so good.

Okay, so I did this last night.

I don't buy Ritz crackers very often.

Well, we were having friends over for Labor Day, so I got stuff to make Amish S'mores, which is Ritz and Reese's and marshmallows.

It was 90 degrees that weekend, so we were on the lake, we never came in to make a fire or have s'mores.

So I still have all of those.

So I'm like, I don't open Ritz crackers unless there's a plan.

So Sunday before the kids left after church, we made popcorn and s'mores.

So the Ritz were open.

Last night, I was sitting on the couch and that's all I could think about was those D-A-M-N Ritz crackers.

And I physically felt the pull.

I had prayed once for strength and I physically then felt the pull to move.

And I sat there and I was like, Lord, I need you, Lord, give me strength, Lord, I need you, get that thought out of my head.

And within like 30 seconds, it was gone.

So this one is one of my favorites.

1st Corinthians 10 13.

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man.

God is faithful and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with temptation, he will also provide the way of escape that you may be able to endure it.

So when that thought comes, pray for it, go outside.

I don't care if there's 10 inches of snow and it's 10 degrees below zero.

Go outside and take a deep breath.

Lord, give me what I need.

Get this out of me.

Now, there has to come a time where you allow treats like that, but maybe for now, for the next 30 days, you commit to one treat a week or two treats a week.

If you're having a treat every day, pray through the balance of what that looks like.

Don't give it up completely.

Say, okay, Sundays our family always gets ice cream.

That's going to be a treat that I have.

And then you have that treat.

And then when the shame comes, there's now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

I don't know what verse that is, but that is one that I wake up saying to myself often.

Okay?

So when you're working through your journaling and your triggers, I want you to start writing the triggers from your pantry in your trigger map.

And then I also want you to start praying over some things in your pantry that can be removed.

Because you don't want your kids to be growing up with this mindset either.

And if the food is in the house all the time and they see you struggling with it, without you even realizing it, they're going to struggle with it.

Have the conversation with Ryan.

I love you.

We need to treat once a month.

That's it.

And then start buying some things that you can make with your kids.

Get some dark chocolate and cranberries and nuts and start making homemade granola bars.

So that you can have things like that at home that when you do have a couple, no big deal.

Okay?

Yes.

Submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.

James 4, 7.

1 Corinthians 6, 19 and 20.

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?

You are not your own, for you were bought with a price, so glorify God with your body.

I'll screen shot those and post them in the chat.

So.

What is your normal wake up time?

You said you wanted to wake up at five today and it didn't happen.

What time do you normally wake up?

I usually wake up about six o'clock.

Okay, and then, are you normally going to bed at about nine?

Yes, no, that doesn't mean that I don't get up throughout the night with everybody.

Sure.

Yes, so about nine o'clock between nine, nine thirty, it's bedtime, and then yes, I wanted to be up at five, because I kind of wanted me time.

Yeah.

You know.

Hi Eleanor.

I've got a Bible study to do, I've got all this other stuff.

Yeah.

I want to do this, and then I just, yeah.

Yeah.

What do you think is the disconnect?

Do you think it's, do you think you're focusing too much on all the ways you think you should be, instead of just focusing on all of the things you already are?

Like, what's the, what are the, what are the lies?

You said you started to think about some of the lies we talked about in the group.

What were some of those that you can...

Let me go back to my thing here because I wrote some down for the...

Like, not good enough.

The non-deserving, you know.

Does that, who does that come from?

Is that you?

Is that rooted from someone?

I believe so, yes.

I was in a relationship that was very, constantly told, you aren't good enough, you're not pretty enough, you're not skinny enough, all of that, that then it's like, I'm living more so for what people think that I should be versus what I am and what I should be.

And who God says you are, yeah.

Yes.

Okay, so as you're working through that list, I want you to have three columns, and I'm having Emily work on a form, so I'll resend that, but just start praying over that list.

So you're gonna have a column for the lies, you're gonna have a column for who they came from, and then you're gonna have a column with a verse that speaks God's truth over those lies.

And then we're gonna work through forgiveness, one for yourself, and then all the other people on the list that you write down, and then we're just gonna be focusing on those verses.

So, I'm not good enough is my lie that comes from Bob, God's word says, I'm fearfully and wonderfully made.

So, I forgive you Bob for planting this seed of doubt and insecurity in my head.

I'm digging that up.

I'm taking that thought captive, throwing it up to God, and I'm walking in the truth that I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

There's no goal weight in the Bible.

Have you ever read about a goal weight in the Bible?

There's no verse about the perfect body and what that looks like in the Bible.

I know lots of skinny people that are very unhealthy in their head and their heart and everywhere else.

Our focus has to be on intentional connection here.

It has to be on intentional connection the second your alarm goes off.

Thank you, Lord, for the gift of breath.

Give me the strength and wisdom and courage to get out of bed and do the things that you have called me to do today, regardless of how I feel.

That takes years to get that thought ingrained in your head.

But the one thing that you can cling to always is that you're already perfectly created, who you are as you are, with zero, you require zero changes.

You don't need to lose weight.

You don't need to stop this.

You don't need to stop that.

You need to start focusing on the fact that God saw you worthy before Genesis 1.

He knew Nicole before he said, let there be light.

That's pretty cool, I think.

That's really cool, yeah.

That's all we need to cling to.

That's it.

There's nothing else beyond there.

We live for that thought alone.

Everything else is just, we strive to live through the sanctification process.

We strive to live alone for God every day.

And honestly, that's, it's not easy.

It's hard, because the world comes at us with all these things that we think we are and we think we should be.

And we see this on social media, and Betty just got this, and Sally just hit her weight loss goal, and all of a sudden, all these things we've worked for don't matter.

And it's, social media is just not serving us.

I know you're not on there a lot, which is good.

And I hardly get on anymore.

Good.

Because it's just, it's too much.

Yeah.

Because yes, everybody posts the good stuff on there, and then I compare.

And I can't do that.

So if I quit getting on and doing that to myself.

Yeah.

Yeah, it's, I mean, it's, yeah, yeah, yep.

Well, I'm proud of you.

I think it's awesome.

Okay, so keep working on that list of lies.

Keep working on who they came from.

And just in your morning time, tomorrow morning when you get up at five, your alarm goes off and you're up at five and you're in that prayer time, don't even bring your phone.

Leave it on the counter in the kitchen or somewhere away from where you do your prayer time.

Get your journal out.

And after you've gone through that pray formula, you got that pray formula and your mindset and routine part in your guide?

Yes.

Once you get to the end, the why, lay your hands on that book, hands open, and just ask him to reveal any seeds of unforgiveness or hurt or trauma that you've pushed down that you need to bring to the surface so you can heal from it.

You can forgive and then ask him to give you a verse to lead you to where he needs you to go.

So you can have an alarm verse, you can have a food verse, you can have a marriage verse, a mom verse, you can have all these different verses that apply to all the areas of your life.

So whatever you want to work on in the next three months as we move towards this, start writing down the things that you want to work towards and then start finding verses that you can use to apply in that time.

You want to be a better wife?

Go to Proverbs 31.

What in that relates most to you?

Pick a verse, write it down.

And in your journal time, in the mornings you can say, okay Lord, this is the woman I aspire to be.

And he's going to move you to do things like that.

And pretty soon the Oreos aren't going to tempt you.

Pretty soon the candy's not going to tempt you.

Because you're so focused on being full of Christ that being full of Red Die Forty, you know, just doesn't matter.

I hope this message encouraged you, and I hope you know how much God cares about you and wants to help you overcome the unhealthy mindsets that are keeping you stuck in your fitness and nutrition journey.
